Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information OrbitFocus (orbitfocus.sbs) handles when you use the site. In short: your tasks, settings and any background image or video stay in your own browser or on your own device, we do not run accounts or servers that store your tasks, and we do not currently use advertising or tracking scripts. The one thing you can choose to send us is a message through the contact form, described below. Last updated: October 27, 2026.

Data stored in your browser (localStorage)

The timer and task dashboard on the home page saves your data in your browser using a feature called localStorage. This is what is stored, under these keys:

  • orbit_tasks: your task list (task text, priority, due date, and the focus sessions and time credited to each task).
  • orbit_task_history and orbit_active_task: tasks you have marked done (with when you finished them and the time they took) and which task the timer is currently working on.
  • orbit_focus_seconds and orbit_focus_sessions: your total focus time and a log of completed focus sessions (date, time and length).
  • orbit_preferences: your settings, such as the focus mode, your Custom-mode lengths and music link (if you add one), the timer display, the daily goal and whether notifications are on.
  • orbit_music_collapsed: whether you folded up the music player.
  • orbit_theme: the colour theme you picked. It is read on every page so the theme stays the same across the site.
  • orbit_bg: your background dim and blur slider values.
  • orbit_google_linked, orbit_google_auto and orbit_google_last: only used by the optional Google Drive backup described below. They hold simple flags and the time of your last backup, never a password or access token.

This data stays on your device. It is not sent to our server or to any third party by the site's code, and we cannot see it. It is not tied to an account. It remains until you delete it, for example with the "Clear completed" button, by clearing your browser's site data, or by using private browsing which usually discards it when you close the window. Because the data lives only in one browser, it does not sync between your devices unless you use the backup options below.

Custom background image or video (IndexedDB)

In Settings you can choose an image or a video to use as the timer background. The file you choose is stored only on your device, in your browser's IndexedDB storage. It is never uploaded to OrbitFocus or to any other server, and we cannot see it. It is also not included in the JSON export or in the Google Drive backup. Use the "Remove background" button in Settings, or clear this site's data in your browser, to delete it.

Backups and exports

Export and import (file). "Export backup" downloads a JSON file with your tasks, focus history, settings and theme to your own device, and "Import backup" loads such a file again. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Optional Google Drive backup. The timer page and Settings show a "Sign in with Google to back up" button. Using it is entirely optional. If you do:

  • Your browser loads Google's sign-in script from accounts.google.com only when you press the button, and talks directly to Google's servers (www.googleapis.com). Google's own privacy policy applies to that sign-in.
  • OrbitFocus asks for one narrow permission, access to its own hidden "app data" folder in your Google Drive. It cannot see, list or change any of your other Drive files, and it does not receive your name, email address or other account details.
  • The backup is a single file containing your tasks, task history, focus log, settings and theme. It goes straight from your browser to your own Drive. OrbitFocus has no server that stores your data. Background images and videos are not backed up.
  • The temporary access token Google gives your browser is kept in memory only and is discarded when you close the page or press "Sign out". You can also remove OrbitFocus's access at any time in your Google Account's third-party access settings, and delete the backup file from Google Drive under Settings, Manage apps.
  • With "Auto-backup" on, changes are saved to your Drive a few seconds after you make them while you are signed in.

Optional music player (Custom mode)

In the Custom focus mode you can paste a link to a song or playlist. This is entirely optional. Nothing is loaded from any music service unless you add a link and Custom mode is the active mode. When it is, the timer page shows that service's own embedded player:

While a player is shown, your browser connects directly to that provider. Like any website you visit, the provider receives your IP address, browser details and the address of the page, and it may use cookies or similar storage and recognise you if you are signed in to it, under its own policy. OrbitFocus does not receive anything back from these players. The link itself is stored only in your browser (and in your backups). Links from other sites are never embedded; they are only offered as a normal link that opens in a new tab. To stop loading a player, clear the music link or switch to another focus mode.

Contact form

The contact page has a simple form. If you use it, the site collects:

  • Your message, which is required.
  • Your email address, which is required so we can reply.
  • Your name, which is optional.

When you press "Send message", this information is sent from your browser to this site's server, which forwards it by email to the site operator. It is used only to read and answer your message. We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not sell or share it, and we do not use it for advertising. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a message.

To limit spam, the server also keeps a short-lived technical record: one-way scrambled (hashed) versions of your email address and message, with the times of recent submissions, used only to rate-limit the form and spot duplicates. These cannot be turned back into your email address or text, and are deleted within about two days. The form's server code does not store your IP address, although the hosting provider's server logs (see below) may record it. Messages are not saved in a database on the site; they exist as email in the operator's mailbox and are deleted from there when no longer needed, normally within a year. Email delivery passes through the hosting provider's mail system and the operator's email provider, whose own policies apply. The form does not load any third-party scripts, such as a CAPTCHA.

Server logs and traffic statistics

The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like almost every web server, the hosting service records technical information about each request, such as your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, your browser's user-agent string and the response status. We may look at the basic traffic statistics Hostinger provides in its hosting control panel to understand how much the site is used and to troubleshoot errors. Hostinger's own handling of this data is described in Hostinger's privacy policy.

At the time of writing we do not run any JavaScript analytics, tracking pixels or session-recording tools. If that changes, for example by adding a privacy-focused analytics service, this page will be updated first.

Cookies and third-party scripts

OrbitFocus does not currently set cookies of its own. The fonts, icons and charts used by the site are served from this site itself rather than from an outside content delivery network, so visiting a page does not send your browser to those third parties. The only exceptions are the optional Google sign-in script and the optional music player described above, which load only after you choose to use them. Your hosting provider or network may still set technical cookies outside our control.

Browser notifications and sound

If notifications are enabled in the settings, your browser may ask for permission to show a notification when a session ends. The permission is managed by your browser and you can revoke it at any time in your browser settings. Notifications and the completion sound are generated locally on your device.

Possible future use of Google AdSense and cookies

We may apply to show advertising from Google AdSense on the informational guide pages in the future. The timer and task dashboard are intended to stay free of ads. If advertising is enabled, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and may show ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. Where the law requires it, we will show a consent notice before any advertising cookies are used, and we will update this policy before ads go live.

Outbound links and affiliate links

Some pages link to other websites, such as the "Tools we like" section. Those links are currently plain links and we earn nothing from them. In the future some may become affiliate links, in which case we will say so next to the links. Once you leave this site, the other site's own privacy policy applies.

Children

The site is a general-audience productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

Because your tasks, settings and background live on your own device, you can view, export and delete them yourself at any time: use Settings in the timer, or clear this site's data in your browser. We do not hold copies of that data, so there is nothing on our side to look up or remove. Any Google Drive backup is in your own Google account and under your control.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
